Peugeot Motor Company is a subsidiary of PSA Peugeot Citroën, with the headquarters located in France. Peugeot S.A. is among the largest purely European car companies. Founded as a coffee mill company in 1810, 1830 as a bicycle manufacturer, 1882 as a car manufacturer and 1898 as a motorcycle company.

Peugeot Motor Company sells a line of automobiles and light commercial vans. In 2009, Peugeot sold 1,842,000 vehicles. sales outside Western Europe totalled 727,000 units in 2009, accounting for 40% of global sales

In 1991, Peugeot's U.S. and Canadian sales faltered and finally became uneconomical. This caused the company to cease U.S. and Canada operations after 33 years. There are currently no known plans to return to the American market.
