    Audi in 2009

In 2009, Audi sold a total of 949,729 cars. Sales figures were therefore just 5.4 percent lower than those of record-breaking 2008, when the Company delivered over one million cars to customers for the first time in its history. This impressive figure was achieved thanks to high growth rates for the Audi Q5, A5 and A6, not to mention the Company's best ever performance in China. Here, in Audi's "second home market," the brand with the four rings sold 158,941 cars in 2009, an increase of one third on the prior year.

As of December 31, 2009, the Audi Group employed a total of 58,046 people worldwide (2008: 58,519). AUDI AG employed 46,411 (46,502) people. 5,624 (5,879) people were employed at subsidiary AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. and 2,152 (2,159) people at AUDI BRUSSELS S.A./N.V., while 986 (986) worked at Lamborghini and 894 (899) at Volkswagen Group Italia S.p.A. (formerly Autogerma)

In 2009, of the 46,411 employees at AUDI AG, a total of 22,705 worked directly in production. The proportion of skilled workers in 2009 was 56.8 percent. 35.1 percent of employees in non-production areas have a university or technical-college degree (as of December 31, 2008). The proportion of women in the total workforce of AUDI AG increased from 12.4 percent in the previous year to 12.6 percent in 2009.

In a move that was entirely appropriate in the Audi brand's centenary year, the company took on an extra 100 apprentices, primarily in the growth fields of electronics and mechatronics. Audi currently has a total of 2,234 apprentices in 22 career fields (as of December 31, 2009). Of these, 2,058 completed an industrial apprenticeship and 176 a technical/business training program. In September 2009, 730 young people, including 186 young women, started an apprenticeship at Audi.
